The 4 – Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss ~ Wednesday’s Book of the Week

Reading a book a week is not an easy task. Taking on the challenge of reading a book a week for a year sounds a little insane. But here’s my real goal: to see myself transform and grow from this experiment. Sometimes I do better than others. Many times I have to finish up a book later. But who am I becoming when I read a book a week? Who will I become? Right now I’m three months into it. I admit this morning I had doubts in my head saying, “What are you doing?”

Part of why I get like that is I am a visionary. I see the whole picture and get really excited. I see book clubs sprouting up all around the United States and other leaders taking this challenge. I see leaders meeting with each other and creating some really spectacular things that would have otherwise not come about except for one of the books they read that gave them the idea. I see leaders working together for the common good. I see amazing things happening.

Then I wake up this morning and change my distance vision to close up and get a little freaked out by what I have to do. Then I take a breath and I remind myself, “one day at a time”. I remind myself the only thing I have to do today is write this blog and read some of this week’s book of the week, The 4 – Hour Workweek by Timothy Ferriss. Because this can only happen book by book and person by person.

Growing of any kind starts slow. A seed is planted. It begins to sprout and even when it begins to sprout there are still many days before it becomes a full-grown plant and goes to harvest. One day at a time. One discipline at a time. What are your dreams that you have? What goals do you want to see achieved this year? Are you wanting to reinvent yourself? Maybe just your dreams? Here are Tim Ferris’s step-by-step process for reinvention.

Tim Ferris’s Step-By-Step Process for Reinvention¹

D – Definition, life style design and relative wealth

E – Elimination, ignore the unimportant, thus creating more time

A – Automation, autopilot income

L – Liberation, mobility in location

One quote from this book that I really love is from Mark Twain, “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” A majority won’t be reading a book a week. But then again the majority are not leaders, the few are. I have been so frustrated with leadership in our country lately. But you know what? It is the kerosene that fuels my fire to first be better myself and second encourage others to do the same. I am not the one with all the wisdom, but I know where to go to get it. So I choose to surround myself with people much smarter than me in the books I read weekly. I choose to take the advice and wisdom of many counselors.

And that’s where you come in. Together we can form an unbelievable network of wise counselors. We all have different life experiences. You’ve lived through and been a part of things that I could never know. The depths of each other’s experiences is where we find our strengths. When we get together and share our perspectives even if we are all reading the same book each week, the outcome will be life changing. Your point of view is what will add value to the group. Together we can change what leadership looks like in this country. We can help redefine leadership in this space of history that you and I are holding in our hands. Together, we can make a difference.

Some of you may be wondering by now when I’m going to pull out the sales pitch for a product. There are none. I am not selling you anything. I’m not running for any political office. I’m not part of an mlm. This may sound crazy. But hey Facebook didn’t have a plan for making money when it first started either. I am driven by the idea of stewardship. It’s one of my core values. I crave making a difference in this world while I’m still living and breathing in it.

Whatever your dream is, own it. Live it. Go out and do what God has place in your heart. My goal is to help you achieve your goals and in the end help you become a better leader in the process. Plain and simple that’s my goal. I’m not the smartest or the prettiest. But I just may be the most stubborn. If you would like to join or start a leadership group in your area, please SUBSCRIBE HERE and I will contact you via e-mail myself and we can start building leadership foundations in your area, one person at a time.
